At Newport Recycling, we are always inspired when members of our team take on challenges that go beyond the day-to-day and make a real difference in their communities. This September, our colleague Julie did just that.
On 27th September 2025, Julie joined fellow riders from the True North Bikers for their ambitious “Bottom to Top, East to West” challenge. While one group set out to conquer the length of Britain from Land’s End to John O’Groats, Julie joined the East to West team, travelling from Lowestoft to St David’s in Wales.
It was no small undertaking. Setting off at 4:30am, Julie and the group rode through clear skies and sunshine, finishing in St David’s at 4:45pm, greeted by the rain but with spirits high. Along the way they even paused at Jeremy Clarkson’s Farmers Dog pub (a little too early for opening hours, but a memorable stop nonetheless).
Together, the riders raised an incredible £5,648 for True North Bikers’ projects.
About True North Bikers
Based in Shropshire, True North Bikers are more than a riding group; they’re a community organisation dedicated to making a positive impact. Their work includes:
- Supporting local community events
- Providing support for veterans
- Delivering mental health and wellness courses
- Fundraising to support families and children (from Easter egg drives, to school supplies, to Christmas toy runs bringing gifts to underprivileged children and children’s hospitals)
- Protecting and mentoring new riders, building confidence and skills on the road
- And much more besides
The funds raised from this challenge will go directly towards supporting and expanding these efforts.
