Peter Francis, Regional Manager at Newport Recycling, attended the official opening of the new educational facility extension at Newport Wastesavers on 19th May 2026, celebrating the long-standing partnership between the two organisations and their shared commitment to sustainability, education, and the local community.
The event was attended by members of the Wastesavers board, local councillors, and other material off-takers, all coming together to support the expansion of the educational facilities.
Newport Recycling has worked with Wastesavers for more than five years, purchasing approximately 5,500 tonnes of mixed paper annually. Over that time, the partnership has continued to grow through a shared focus on recycling, environmental responsibility, and community engagement across the Newport area.
To support the latest development, Newport Recycling donated £1,000 towards the creation of a new interactive learning room designed for primary school children aged between 7 and 9 years old.
The facility will welcome schools from Newport and surrounding areas, helping children learn more about recycling and sustainability through educational books, videos, interactive displays, and hands-on activities.
Children visiting the centre can explore how materials such as paper, plastics, glass, and metals are recycled, while also learning about the energy and natural resources saved through the recycling process. Interactive stations encourage pupils to answer questions and engage directly with the exhibits, helping make environmental education both fun and accessible.
The wider educational facilities at Wastesavers have supported young people for many years, particularly teenagers who may struggle within traditional classroom environments, offering practical learning opportunities in areas such as arts, woodwork, plumbing, and life skills.
Wastesavers Operations Manager Ian Syms thanked Newport Recycling for its continued support, with both organisations looking forward to continuing to work together in the future.
By supporting projects like this, Newport Recycling continues to invest not only in sustainable recycling solutions, but also in the education of future generations and the wider local community.
